The Bottom Line:

Taking local ingredients and transforming them into delicious dishes is the main mission at Homegrown. With every visit to their West Asheville location, you will delight in all the rich, savory dishes served piping hot and with a friendly smile. Perhaps even better, their desserts are good enough to warrant the stop on their own.

- The SmokyMountains.com Local Expert Team

With the success of their main location on Merrimon Avenue, Homegrown set their sights on a brand new spot in West Asheville. Upon finding the perfect spot on Amboy Road, they opened their second location, much to the delight of locals. This popular eatery is well-known for taking fresh, local ingredients and turning them into delicious home-cooked meals. In fact, many of their dishes are so good, you might be inspired to write home about them.

To help communities see that eating fresh and local does not have to cost an arm and a leg, they source as many of their ingredients as they can from local farms. Despite this unique twist, they keep their prices competitive, offering excellent value and a wonderful lesson on sustainability.

Unlike their spot on Merrimon, they do not serve breakfast at this location. You can stop in for brunch on the weekends, though the menu mimics their main offerings. They have a robust lunch and dinner menu, however, that keeps people coming through the doors all day and evening long.

Every time you come by, you can expect to be greeted with a warm welcome and friendly smile to kick your visit off right. You can choose between eating indoors at their cozy tables or outdoors in their whimsical dining area. Sometimes they even have live music playing by the fire for all outdoor diners to enjoy.

Our favorites include:

Pommes Frites
Smartly dubbed ‘fancy fries,’ Pommes Frites definitely take a classic favorite to the next level. Cut thin and fried to perfection, these not-so-ordinary fries will delight you with their complex flavors. Ask for a side of gravy to dip them in for a flavor combination unlike any other. Ask for their locally-made hot sauce or any other dipping sauce you prefer.

Open Faced Fried Chicken Biscuit
Perhaps nothing hits the spot better than their Open Faced Fried Chicken Biscuit. Starting with their fresh-baked biscuit, cut in half, they load on the fried chicken and cheddar before pouring over the gravy. You have your choice of sides, though you can only pick one for this order. Consider the grit cakes, fancy fries, or potato fritters to perfect this dish.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Mushroom Gravy
For something equally classic and delicious, you can try their Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Mushroom Gravy instead. Fried deliciously crisp, their chicken always promises to delight. With mushroom gravy poured over top, each bite is an out of this world flavor experience to remember. You can pick up this meal with either one or two sides of your choice. The mashed taters, cheesy grits, and Shelby slaw are all incredible pairings for this dish, though you really cannot go wrong here.

Catfish Po’ Boy
With its crunchy-battered catfish and amazing comeback sauce, the Catfish Po’ Boy always delivers the flavors you crave. This sandwich begins with a New Orleans style hoagie roll and a big pile of fried catfish. Then comes the lettuce, sprouts, pickled onions, and a healthy dose of comeback sauce. Remember to load up on the locally-made hot sauce to give each bite as much kick as you need.

Walnut Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie Kisses
Designed to be purchased in mass quantities, the Walnut Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie Kisses are absolutely mouthwatering good. They have all your favorite flavors combined to create bite-sized sweet treats to snack on all night long. Pair with your favorite flavor of Waynesville Soda Jerks, which is sold by the bottle here, to cleanse your palate and experience the sweetness all over again with the next bite.

The menu is jampacked with similarly amazing appetizers, entrees, and desserts galore, so you can always try something new during your visits here.

Insider Tips:
– There is no air conditioning in the indoor dining area. On hot days, sit outside in the shade to catch a breeze and stay comfortable while you eat your meal. There is even a swing and cornhole game set up outside to keep you busy while you wait for your meal to arrive.
– Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to sit with their owners in the outdoor seating area. So, take your dog on a nice stroll on the greenway before coming in for a cool drink and bite to eat.
