Black Mountain has no shortage of quaint dining establishments, but Berliner Kindl German Restaurant is among the most distinctive. This charming restaurant has an old-world feel, which makes it a natural destination for anybody who wants to escape the stresses of modern life for an hour or two.

From the outside, this restaurant might not seem all that impressive. Move beyond the simple storefront, however, and you’ll find an inviting interior, complete with heavy wooden furniture and beautiful paintings of the German countryside.

Ordering shouldn’t be a struggle, as the menu is easy to navigate. Schnitzel is a natural top option, This is definitely not a vegetarian-friendly restaurant, so look elsewhere if you’re unable or unwilling to eat meat. Otherwise, you’ll be forced to settle for a grilled cheese sandwich or a side salad.

Every Berliner Kindl meal tastes better when accompanied by fine wine or a quality German beer. Both are in abundant supply, so don’t hesitate to check out the drink menu. The offerings from the wine list are exclusively sourced from the Leonard Kreusch Winery. The beer selection is a bit more diverse, with options from Weihenstephan, Spaten, Warsteiner, and Ayinger provided.

The fun doesn’t end when your plate and your glass are empty. First, you’ll need to try the indulgent torte or tiramisu. Next, it’s time to prepare for your next German culinary adventure. If you want to bring a piece of the Berliner Kindl experience home, you’re welcome to browse the onsite deli. There, you’ll find a great selection of meats, as well as German chocolates, wines, beers, and more.

A few of our favorite menu items include the following:

Schnitzel Dinner
A German classic, this iconic meal is not to be missed. This should be your go-to if you typically struggle to choose just one item on a menu full of enticing options. While there are a few specialty schnitzel entrees available, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple. Golden brown with crispy breading, this is what you would expect to receive if you traveled to the heart of Bavaria. Here, however, it’s served with home fries and flavorful cabbage.

Dinner for Two
A wonderful option for date night, this sizable meal is sure to satisfy. It includes many of the sides mentioned above, such as sauerkraut, red cabbage, and German potato salad. More notable, however, are the smoked pork chop and the chef’s choice of sausages. You’ll receive four of these sausages total, so don’t order unless both you and your dining companion are feeling ambitious.

Krainerwurst
As one of several smoked sausage platters highlighted on the Berliner Kindl menu, this unique variety features smoked garlic sausage. Like every sausage platter, it can be enjoyed with your choice of two sides.

German-Style Hamburger
While it’s easy to satisfy even the pickiest eaters at Berliner Kindl German Restaurant, some will naturally gravitate towards a simple, yet satisfying burger. Served on a Kaiser roll, this burger is loaded with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Enjoy chips and a pickle on the side.

#3 Combo Dinner
When you have a huge appetite and you simply can’t leave out any German classics, you’re the perfect candidate for one of the restaurant’s combos dinners. The third option is the most filling, as it includes not only bratwurst but also a specialty known as knackwurst — and even a smoked pork chop.
