Wonders of Magic: Excellent Show for a Reasonable Price

As a longtime fan of close-up magic, I’m always a little cautious about the stage magic shows because they seem like they’ll be cheesy compared to seeing a real magician make a card disappear inches from your face, but my kids were really excited to see the Pigeon Forge magic show, so away we went!

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. Terry Evanswood is actually a great magician with a truly natural stage presence and everyone in my family enjoyed the show! Terry Evanswood amazed the entire audience with a combination of grand illusions, closeup magic, and sleight of hand. During the show, I learned that Evanswood was previously the recipient of the Merlin Award, which is the equivalent of an Oscar for magicians!

The crowd was made up of primarily families, but there were some older couples and groups there as well. During the show, there were plenty of moments where he pulled up people from the crowd to help out with some of the magic tricks. Our party of four was a little too shy to volunteer, but it was hilarious to watch a little girl help out with the show. It’s not just participation stuff though; they put on a seriously professional looking production complete with smoke machine, high-quality lights and sound, singing, comedy, and pretty assistants. It’s the real deal. In fact, several years ago an escape illusion involving a huge saw went awry and Terry had to be rushed to the hospital for thirty stitches!

One of our favorite acts was quite beautiful and mesmerizing: a levitation act involving water and lights. One of Terry’s assistant appears to levitate on top of a fountain of water and then on light alone! To remove any doubt of wires or cables, he even passed a hoop around her body.

Another major crowd pleaser was introduced as a recreation of one of Houdini’s famous escapes. Again, not sure how he pulled it off, but somehow Terry managed to switch places with one of his assistants in the time it took for a gigantic burgundy curtain to drop to the floor of the stage. Really amazing stuff!

Quality show, professional setup, and truly something for everybody. I sort of expected it to be a silly little amusement on our one cloudy vacation day, but the Wonders of Magic show ended up being one of the most memorable moments of the trip. Terry did a nice job of working in some of the history of the art form as well as some inspirational thoughts on making the most of the everyday “magic” of our lives.

Kids will enjoy the opportunity to meet the cast for autographs and photos immediately following the show. The quality of the performance, magic and otherwise, made the cost of admission worth every last penny.
