The Bottom Line:

Tucked away in the Smoky Mountains just a short distance from other attractions, River Romp offers plenty of river fun where you can enjoy the relaxation and fun of floating down the river for a few hours or the whole day. Whether you rent a kayak or one of their tubes, you’ll have a blast going through short rapids and slowly floating along the quiet river. Be sure to have water shoes of some kind since you can’t go barefoot, and bring the entire family along for a great day on the water.

A Smoky Mountain secret tucked away in Sevierville, TN, River Romp Tubing is a family-owned water attraction that’s been in business for more than 30 years. Located right on the Pigeon River, River Romp is just a few miles away from Dolly’s Splash Country yet it’s tucked away to offer all the beauty, peacefulness, and relaxation that comes with the secluded mountain river.

When you arrive at the River Romp, you’ll be at the old “Barn,” which is where you’ll be welcomed and you’ll have your choice between kayaks, standard tubes, or premium tubes, which come with a cup holder and a backrest for a more comfortable experience. Whether you only want to go out for a couple of hours or you want to tube or kayak all day long, there are different options and prices available to fit your needs. Cooler tubes are also available to allow you to take your cooler along with you for drinks and refreshments along the way.

The tubing or kayaking experience begins up at the Barn, and you’ll ride down the river for about 2.5 miles where you can exit to the Pavilion that offers a phone that calls directly to the office. A driver will come to pick you up and bring you back to the Barn. You’ll be able either take another ride down the river or you can leave. However, you’re only permitted to continue on another trip down the river before 4:00 pm.

The River Romp is perfect for the whole family, and children between the ages of 2-4 are welcomed free of charge as long as they remain in the same tube as an adult. With easy access to the river, River Romp has been able to serve individuals with mobility challenges as well. If you have mobility challenges, be sure to discuss this with the staff before arrival to see if your needs can be accommodated.

Be aware that you’ll be required to have something on your feet while you head down the river. Although River Romp recommends you have old tennis shoes or water shoes, they do allow flip flops. Without footwear, you won’t be allowed to go on the trip down the river. Water shoes are available on site for purchase if needed.

Life jackets must be worn of all minors, and they’re recommended for adults as well. While much of the river isn’t very deep, there are some deeper pools and adults who can’t swim should wear their life jacket for safety. While there are some fast rapids in a few areas, most of the river will give you a leisurely, relaxing float.
