Mountain Lodge Restaurant

Update Dec 1, 2016: On Nov 28th, 2016, Mountain Lodge was destroyed by the largest fires in Smoky Mountain History. Our hearts go out to the hard working families and friends who made the Mountain Lodge such a great place to eat over their many years of business.

You’ll feel like you’re having a meal at home among friends at the Mountain Lodge Restaurant in Gatlinburg. This quaint little joint is super relaxed with surprisingly delicious food. Heralded as a best kept secret amongst locals, it’s a great spot to catch some authentic southern eats during your visit to the area.

Resembling a house on the outside and on the inside with a staff and customers that’ll feel more like long lost relatives than anything else is what you’re going to get at Mountain Lodge. Don’t miss this diamond in the rough as you make your way down the road. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the carpet, wood paneling, and random pictures placed all around the walls. I had to double check that I wasn’t in my grandma’s living room before I sat down. Needless to say, you’ll feel right at home in this restaurant.

The dining area feels a little snug, but not uncomfortable by any means at all. There are decently sized windows all along the front of the building, so you can see what’s going on outside. You should love the table you get because you choose it yourself. Get comfy at a table of your choice and wait to be served.

The food at Mountain Lodge is pretty tasty. They serve breakfast the entire time they’re open, so breakfast food junkies rejoice! If you want a waffle for lunch, no problem. However, they close at 3 pm, so if you want a waffle for dinner, you’re not going to find it here.

Our food came out within about ten minutes of ordering it, and everything was exactly how we had asked for it to be. The menu isn’t that big, but here are some of our personal favorites:

  • Mountain Lodge Breakfast- This is the breakfast for those who have trouble picking just one item for the most important meal of the day. You’ll be getting your pick of 3 pancakes, French toast, or waffles, two eggs, bacon or sausage. We feel like you may as well get it all at breakfast, and this meal provides that!
  • Cheeseburger- You can’t go wrong with a classic cheeseburger, and at Mountain Lodge, they’re doing them up right. Take your pick between a 4 or 6 oz patty, and enjoy each juicy bite with all the toppings you prefer. We like to add on a side of curly fries with this one, because what’s a good burger without some fries?
  • Country Fried Steak- While in the South, it’s only fitting that you get something that’s been deep fried. Country fried steak crisped up to crunchy perfection and smothered in gravy is the way to go. We guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Our server was great. She was very friendly and comfortable with her guests. She got us everything we needed with a touch of southern hospitality, but didn’t come back too often. Our drinks were always full, and we never seemed to be lacking anything. She was also very knowledgable on the menu which was helpful when we had questions about some of the food. No need to dress fancy; the servers wear jeans and T-shirts adding to the relaxed atmosphere of the place.

Mountain Lodge is located off of highway 321 just outside the heart of downtown Gatlinburg and is definitely one of Gatlinburg’s best kept secrets.

Insider Tip: There is parking on both sides of the restaurant, but it can get pretty full during busy times. You may have to park a short walk away if this is the case.  Also, during the winter season, their hours may vary. We suggest calling ahead to check on hours to ensure you don’t show up to a closed restaurant.
