Apeldoorn House welcomes you with mountain charm that lends itself to leisure. Picture an unimposing cottage-style home overlooking a green valley with a creek running the length of the property, the perfect backdrop for activities such as enjoying the mountain view from the stone patio or sitting by the babbling brook for an evening under the stars. Nestled in a private cove near Black Mountain, NC, this extraordinary green-built vacation rental sets a standard for the eco-tourism movement. Apeldoorn House has garnered positive press for its "hempcrete" building material, a popular choice for environmentally safe construction in Europe for many generations, but a rare architectural find in the United States. Featuring twelve-inch thick walls that naturally repel moisture, the structure was built with earth-friendly materials, including barn wood repurposed as ceiling beams and window sills, 150-year-old cabinets that were salvaged from a renovated building in New York City, and the hempcrete walls which will compost when deconstructed.
The adobe interior creates a comforting aesthetic with arched doorways, built-in bench seats, and deep-set windows that span the front of the home, bringing countryside views into the living area. A cozy reading nook is calling your name, or maybe the beautiful weather draws you out to the covered deck. Tap into the creative vibe that resonates here. Imagine cooking a gourmet dinner in the well-equipped kitchen, then dining at the picnic table under the towering oak tree. Retreat to one of two plush bedrooms, both with queen-size beds. The primary bedroom suite feels like a sanctuary with its own full bath, a writing desk in a sunny alcove, and walkout access to the covered patio. Apeldoorn House warms up at night where the fireplace creates a relaxing atmosphere to gather. Walk across the yard to visit the game room, located in a separate outbuilding, including a cornhole set, a foosball table, and board games for family entertainment. Come together around the fire pit on chilly winter nights. Adventure seekers will discover trails through the old-growth forest, garden beds full of flowering native plants, and the stepping stone path by the creek where fairies live among the ferns in the summer. Redbud and dogwood trees bloom in the spring, and autumn is bursting with stunning scenery. Channeling the unique small-town charm of its namesake city in the Netherlands, Apeldoorn House offers the opportunity to explore Black Mountain, North Carolina, a quaint valley town known for its great restaurants and shops, parks, and family-friendly atmosphere. Travelers seeking inspiration will fall in love with Apeldoorn House and look forward to returning again and again.
