Description

Constructed from hand-hewn logs and rare wormy chestnut that can be seen on the interior paneling and cabinetry, this home offers a warm and rustic feel coupled with modern luxuries. In the morning, watch the sunrise over the mountains and catch a glimpse of the hummingbirds darting about while sipping your coffee in the rocking chair on the front porch before enjoying a delicious breakfast at the outdoor dining table. Wander onto the large terraced front lawn to pick fresh raspberries & blueberries in the summer months, or harvest some of the many herbs & veggies when in season (including sage, thyme, dill, carrots, arugula, poblano peppers, tomatoes & more) growing in the raised beds to add flavor and color to your meals. Pack a small picnic to enjoy along the banks of the nearby pond or in the expansive meadow before making your way to the pristine trout-filled waters of the Pigeon River to fish & rock hop to your heart's content. Take a short drive (approx. 2 miles) to reach Lake Logan, where you can spend your afternoons soaking up the sun, swimming, and kayaking. On your way home, stop by the Ten Acre Garden in Canton to get lost in the sunflower maze & enjoy wood oven pizza (exclusively offered on Saturday afternoons as thanks to the community). For outdoor enthusiasts, there are several hiking & mountain biking trails within a 5-mile radius of the cabin throughout the majestic Pisgah National Forest. Travel just 15 mi to reach the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, where you'll find scenic stops, miles of hiking trails, and numerous waterfalls to explore. For an outdoor experience you won't forget, travel 30 mi to reach The Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Cataloochee to observe the epic elk herd. Gorgeous golf courses and downhill skiing are also within driving distance of the cabin, offering exciting activities throughout the calendar year. When you're ready to explore the nearby small towns, be sure to check out the charming town of Waynesville just 15 min. away which boasts several boutique shops, farmer's markets, restaurants, breweries, museums, and galleries. If you're interested in exploring city life, travel 40 minutes west to check out the attractions that give Asheville its eccentric and exciting reputation. Take a tour of the Biltmore House and Grounds, spend the day at the Grove Park Inn Spa for some much-needed self-care, capture some photos and sample the local brews in the colorful River Arts District, and end the day by enjoying a meal at one of the many award-winning restaurants, or return home to use the fully equipped gourmet kitchen to prepare a fabulous dinner to enjoy al fresco or at the custom-built dining room table with front-row mountain views. After dinner, gather around the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the cozy living room & stream that movie you've been meaning to see. On those chilly nights, build a fire in the outdoor fire pit to stay warm and roast s'mores, and stargaze into the late-night hours while talking and laughing with loved ones. Whether you're rocking on the front porch just watching the clouds roll over the mountains or listening to the sounds of the river or reading while you lounge in the community hammock beneath the trees, Chestnut House will offer you a unique glimpse into Appalachian living & provide a stay that's filled with the sweetness & warmth that lends the cabin its name. Please Note: This home is pet-friendly with an additional fee. AWD/4WD is strongly recommended during the winter months. The roads to the cabin are paved (aside from a short stretch of level gravel). There is parking for 5 cars. There is a catch-and-release pond with bluegill, bass & trout within walking distance of the home at McClure Creek that runs into Pigeon River which is stocked with rainbow, brook, and brown trout. You must have a fishing license to fish in the river. Guests have exclusive access to both sides of nearly 200 yards of the river. A workstation with a custom-built solid oak desk, chair, and monitor was recently added to the upper landing. A highly efficient window air conditioner was added to the upstairs back bedroom to ensure it remains cool during the hot summer months. The home offers high-speed fiber internet with speeds of 100 Mbps.
