Description
Update December 2016. Available for rent now. Blue Heron might look compact, but you'll be impressed by how much airy comfort is packed inside. Nestled among the oaks on a ridge of the Great Smoky Mountains, this log cabin can sleep up to 6 people. What's more, it includes a pool table, an Xbox 360 gaming system, an outdoor hot tub, an indoor jetted tub, web access, and so much more, making it ideal for both a family vacation and a romantic getaway for 2.

Let's start our tour of the newly renovated cabin from the top—the loft game room, that is. There's something here to keep everyone entertained during rainy days or laid-back nights: pool table, an Xbox 360, 37” HDTV with DVD player. The 2 futons open into beds, enabling 2 people to make the loft their sleeping quarters (I think we know where the kids will want to sleep!). For added convenience there's even a half-bath up here—and as you can imagine, the view of the treetops and the mountains beyond is amazing.

A 2nd flat-panel HDTV—this one 42”, with Blu-ray and surround sound—is in the main-level living room. Pop some popcorn and kick back on the sofa for family movie night, or set up the Monopoly board at the adjacent dining table, which comfortably seats 4. In summer the ceiling fan will keep you cool; in winter you can nestle by the stone-surround gas fireplace. That sofa, by the way, converts to a bed for 2.

In addition to the dining table, there's a picnic table right out front, so you can savor your meal surrounded by nature's grandeur. You can cook outside as well, on the charcoal grill. Hot dogs, steak, fresh trout you reeled in yourself from one of the nearby rivers—whatever your preference, it's bound to taste even better grilled alfresco.

Of course Blue Heron has a fully equipped kitchen indoors as well. Even if your idea of a vacation means trying a different restaurant every night, you'll appreciate having a fridge/freezer, stove/oven, microwave, coffeemaker, tableware, and cookware at your disposal. There's a dishwasher too, so you can spend less time cleaning and more time exploring the Smoky Mountains.

The bedroom is nearly as spacious as Blue Heron's open-plan living area. You'll arrive to find the king-size bed freshly made, so if you want to make a nap your first order of business, you can. There's plenty of storage, though you can pack light, as the cabin has its own washer and dryer (no need to bring your entire wardrobe with you!).

The jetted tub, perfectly positioned by a window so that you can admire the scenery as you soak, gives the bedroom the ambience of a master suite. For additional pampering, you can't beat the outdoor hot tub; as you relax among its warm bubbling water, surrounded by greenery with endless sky as a canopy, you may never want to leave!

On the other hand, you won't want to miss out on all the area delights either. Blue Heron is just off the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, an 8-mile trail of more than 100 galleries, studios, and craft shops offering everything from stained glass to chainsaw art, custom knives to pottery. The cabin is also less than 10 minutes by car from downtown Gatlinburg, where you'll find more shops, an aquarium, amusements, and loads of restaurants. And let's not forget the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with its hiking trails, historic cabins, waterfalls, and wildlife ranging from black bears to elk, and Dollywood just a bit farther afield...

There's so much to do just minutes from Blue Heron. Fortunately Blue Heron is a comfortable, cozy, amenity-filled cabin you'll love returning to at the end of each day's adventures. So make your reservation today—before someone else beats you to it!
