A Precious Place resembles a charming Southern inn or bed-and-breakfast more than it does your typical Smoky Mountain cabin. But unlike when you stay in a b-and-b, you don’t have to share this cottage with anyone else, nor do you have to be up and out by a certain time. What’s more, it includes amenities you won’t find in an old-fashioned inn, including air hockey, foosball, and a hot tub.
The hot tub is located on A Precious Place’s Victorian-style gazebo. Screens provide optimal privacy while still letting in those refreshing mountain breezes. When you return from hiking, horseback riding, or exploring every cranny of Dollywood, you’ll probably make a beeline to its massaging jets of water.
The cottage’s other outdoor spaces are just as inviting. Two decks look out onto the carefully tended, leafy grounds. Accessible via the yard and surrounded by picket fencing, the spacious lower deck is furnished with plenty of chairs and tables so that everyone can sit among its shady comfort. It’s tailor-made for afternoon-long picnics, relaxing with a stack of magazines, or catching up on old times with friends. There’s even a porch swing. During the day the kids will try to commandeer it, but at night you and your sweetie can nestle on it while sipping a romantic nightcap in the moonlight.
Just off the kitchen, the sunny upper deck has plenty of its own seating and tables. Enjoy breakfast out here among the singing wrens and warblers or dinner as the setting sun gives way to twinkling stars. This deck also has a charcoal smoker grill, so you can barbecue your alfresco meal. Of course, A Precious Place has a full kitchen indoors as well, equipped with everything from a refrigerator/freezer to a dishwasher to a coffeemaker, along with cookware and tableware. If you don’t want to dine outdoors, you can do so inside. There’s a charming nook tucked into the living room as well as a formal dining table in the sunroom.
Once you step into the sunroom, with its white wicker furniture, floral cushions, and lace curtains, you’ll immediately have a hankering for iced tea or a mint julep. Because the room also has a wall-mounted TV with cable, you can watch a movie while you imbibe. French doors connect the sunroom to the living room, where you’ll find another flat-screen TV. The beamed ceiling, stained-glass window, roll-arm sofas, and gas fireplace imbue the room with a bygone coziness. Seasonal decorations are added for Christmas and Valentine’s Day, making A Precious Place even more special. A cabinet is stocked with classic games—just the sort you want to play in a room like this. For more games, head to the basement (accessible from outside). There you’ll find air-hockey and foosball tables and a dartboard. The basement also has a washer and a dryer for maximum convenience.
Each of A Precious Place’s 2 bedrooms includes a queen-size bed and a flat-screen TV. A 5th guest can sleep on the sunroom’s daybed. Along with 2 bedrooms, there are 2 full bathrooms, which should ensure that you won’t have to wait on line for your turn to shower.
Other conveniences include free WiFi and a level driveway with room for several vehicles. (If you’re visiting in winter, 4-wheel drive and/or tire chains are strongly recommended.) Most convenient of all, however, is A Precious Place’s location. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community, and downtown Gatlinburg are all within a 10-minute drive. Dollywood and Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area are less than 20 minutes away.
When you make A Precious Place your Gatlinburg home away from home, you can be certain that your vacation will be an extra-special one. Don’t miss out; book your stay today!
