As soon as you drive up to Echota, you’ll know that this is no ordinary Smoky Mountain cabin. Its eye-catching design and expansive wraparound deck set it apart, just as its leafy yet supremely convenient location makes it the perfect home base for taking advantage of everything the area has to offer.
A four-bedroom, three-story A-frame, Echota can sleep up to ten people. Because three of its bedrooms have king-size beds, it’s perfect for several couples or families who want to vacation together. The fourth bedroom sleeps four people in a pair of queen-size beds. The kids will love making this space their own; every night will seem like a slumber party.
A towering, dramatically slanted ceiling distinguishes the great room on the main floor. Large picture windows let in plenty of sunlight as well as luscious views of the surrounding woodlands. You’ll feel as if you’re vacationing in a treehouse—though we don’t know of any treehouses with sofas as marvelously comfortable as Echota’s. This room includes a TV with cable, rocking chairs, and a stone-surround fireplace. When you return from skiing or snowboarding—the cabin is only a few minutes from Ski Mountain and Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area—you’ll relish warming yourself by the fire with a mug of hot cocoa or Irish coffee.
The dining table seats six people with room to spare, and the breakfast bar can accommodate another five. You can serve the kids their dinner at the breakfast bar while the adults linger over their meal at the table. The kitchen is fully equipped with appliances, gadgets, cookware, and tableware. You’ll find all the gear you need, whether you’re preparing a Thanksgiving feast or heating leftovers from the previous night’s restaurant meal (and there are scores of restaurants just a short ride away).
One of Echota’s many advantages is its wealth of space, where you can hang out with the whole gang or slip away for some quiet time. The loft, for instance, includes a cozy sitting area perfect for curling up with a book or stretching out with your tablet to take advantage of the free WiFi. Also in the loft is a table for four where you can enjoy an impromptu poker night or the kids can play board games or work on crafts.
The downstairs game room, on the other hand, can accommodate a crowd. A full-size pool table takes center stage, but a second fireplace, another TV, and an additional sumptuous couch add to the room’s appeal.
Then there are Echota’s outdoor spaces. The patio boasts a large hot tub. After a day spent hiking, snowshoeing, or white-water rafting, your muscles will appreciate a long soak in the fresh mountain breeze. And don’t forget the huge wraparound deck, furnished with chairs and tables so that you can savor the panoramic views anytime of day or night, by yourself or with family and friends.
Echota’s other amenities include three full bathrooms and a half-bath, a private washer and dryer, ample parking, and free access to the community pool throughout the summer.
Perhaps best of all is how close the chalet is to the area’s most popular attractions. Like Ober Gatlinburg, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is just a five-minute drive from Echota; you can explore it on foot, on bike, on horseback, or by car.
Within ten minutes you can be in downtown Gatlinburg, home to the Guinness World Records Adventure, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, thrill rides, arcades, mini golf, shops, and so much more. And the attractions of Pigeon Forge, including Dollywood, Parrot Mountain and Gardens, dinner theaters, and the Titanic Museum, are only a half-hour away.
