“Wow”: That just might be your reaction as you drive up the mountain road and see Unbridled Spirit perched among towering trees. The hand-built log home is a beauty from the outside—and just as gorgeous inside, which a cathedral ceiling and luminous wood-planked floors and walls. What’s more, with five en-suite bedrooms, an eight-person hot tub, and a game room with a Nintendo Wii among its amenities, the house is a comfortable, restful retreat that can sleep up to sixteen people. Please note, there is a minimum two-night stay required.
Each of the five bedrooms—four upstairs and the fifth on the main floor—can be considered a master suite, which makes Unbridled Spirit well suited for multiple couples or families vacationing together. Each has a king-size bed, a private bathroom with a combo shower-tub, a TV with a DVD player, and a delightful view of the surrounding woodlands. The main-level bedroom has a bonus: a whirlpool tub in its bathroom.
In addition, a sofa in the great room opens into a bed for two, as do two of the couches in the upstairs game room. There’s a good chance the kids will want to sleep in the game room even if there’s an available bedroom: The airy loft space includes not only a full-size pool table but also a multi-game arcade—think of the Frogger and Galaga marathons!
The great room on the main floor is easily as spacious as the game room, with a towering ceiling and a double-height wall of windows that let you savor the view from just about any seat. And there’s seating a-plenty: three roomy, cushiony sofas ideal for watching a movie (Unbridled Spirit offers free HBO, Showtime, Stars and Cinemax) on the 50” flat-panel TV with DVD player while basking in the warmth of the stone-surround fireplace.
Like the great room, the dining area can accommodate a crowd. The lustrous American oak dining table easily seats up to twelve people. There’s also a smaller dining table that can accommodate four—and makes a handy spot for checking emails or playing cards. Need more room? The kitchen island doubles as a breakfast bar and can seat four more. If you’re vacationing with kids, you could serve them dinner at the smaller table or the island while the adults enjoy a quieter, more leisurely meal at the dining table; we’re sure the kids won’t mind, especially since they can head upstairs to the game room when they’re finished!
The beautifully equipped kitchen might spur you to new culinary heights. As well as appliances galore—including a refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, a blender for whipping up margaritas or milkshakes, and the all-important dishwasher—it offers a wealth of gleaming granite counter space and loads of storage. You can stock up on groceries at the start of your stay, rather than make daily trips to the supermarket; this will leave you with more time to laze in the hot tub!
You can cook and dine outdoors as well. The deck is home to a gas grill and a dining table. There’s a smaller pub table too, perfect for enjoying a nightcap under the stars. And let’s not forget that eight-person hot tub: When you return from a day of skiing, hiking, or whitewater rafting, you’ll relish a restorative soak among its steamy bubbles!
You could happily while away your entire stay without leaving Unbridled Spirit. But then you’d be missing out on everything the area has to offer. The house is just four miles from the Greenbrier entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park; in fact, Unbridled Spirit overlooks the seven-mile ridge known as Greenbrier Pinnacle. And if you’re a golfer, you’ll be delighted to know that the house is adjacent to Bent Creek Golf Course, designed by Masters and British Open winner Gary Player.
While Unbridled Spirit is just a short drive from many of the area’s attractions, keep in mind that it is on a mountain road; in winter you may need chains on your vehicle or four-wheel drive. Regardless of the season, though, the home is a haven from the everyday—and what’s more relaxing than that!
