River Cottage, a three-bedroom, one-level home, is right in downtown Gatlinburg. You can park your car in the house’s carport and then pretty much forget about it during your stay. The Gatlinburg Convention Center, the Guinness World Records Museum, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, restaurants galore, the tram to Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and Ski Area—you can walk to each of them in minutes.
River Cottage’s proximity to these attractions isn’t the only reason you’ll want to make this your home away from home. As its name suggests, the house overlooks a tree-lined river; the view from the deck and the windowed wall of the living/dining area are so gorgeous, you just might forget that you’re downtown. This is especially true once you step inside the deck’s hot tub! Soaking among the sun-dappled trees as you listen to the burbling of the river and the singing of the warblers just might be one of the highlights of your stay; after all, the simplest pleasures are often the most magical. Please note, there is no wireless internet available at River Cottage.
More pleasures await inside. The living/dining area is spacious enough for everyone to gather for games, meals, movie marathons, or reminiscing about old times and getting ready to make new memories. The leather couches and armchair in the living area are supremely comfortable, the gas fireplace casts a welcoming glow, and the windows bring the beauty of the outdoors in. All that, and there’s a TV with cable and a DVD player to boot.
The dining table seats six comfortably. There’s also a kitchen table that seats four, and another four people can sit at the breakfast bar. If you’re vacationing with kids, one night you might want to serve them their dinner in the kitchen while the adults enjoy a more leisurely meal in the dining area—we’re sure the kids will enjoy eating “alone” just as much as the parents!
Given that you can walk to loads of restaurants from River Cottage, you might not plan on doing much, if any, cooking. Once you see the sparkling kitchen, however, you’re apt to change your mind. With its stainless-steel appliances, gleaming countertops, and wealth of cookware and tableware, the kitchen might bring out your inner chef. At the very least, you’ll appreciate having a microwave in which to reheat restaurant leftovers and a fridge in which to store juice boxes and wine.
To make the most of River Cottage’s amazing location, you’ll want to wake up each morning well rested and rarin’ to go. Along with a sumptuous king-size bed, the primary suite has a jetted tub. A soak after a day of hiking, fishing, skiing, or exploring Dollywood will relax those achy muscles and your overstimulated mind.
Like the primary, the second bedroom has a king-size bed; the third bedroom offers a queen. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom with a tub/shower combo, and there’s a half-bathroom for guests as well. Speaking of guests, the sofa in the entrance sitting area opens into a bed for two, should you have additional friends spending the night; in total, River Cottage can sleep eight people—and even a small dog or two! (Yes, small canines are welcome.)
While the kids could probably while away their entire stay among the amusements of downtown Gatlinburg, there’s plenty more to see and do nearby. You can drive to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in minutes, as well as the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, an eight-mile trail of galleries, studios, and craft shops. Even Dollywood is less than a half-hour drive away.
When you stay at River Cottage, all the must-see, must-do, must-visit attractions of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are just outside your door. Get ready for your best vacation yet, and book your stay today!
